Hotels

There are a number of good hotels within one hour of Ballincurrig. Amongst those used and recommended by our clients are:

Midleton Park

Web site

A pleasant hotel located just outside Midleton. 3 stars with two restaurants, a spa and pool – but it does do weddings!

Ballyvolane House

Web site

Luxury accommodation in a small, country house hotel about 5 miles north of Ballincurrig. Is able to provide salmon fishing on Ireland’s most noted salmon river, the Blackwater (1st February – 30th September), and trout fishing on its own lake.

Meals are taken around a single large, antique dining table, in the traditional ‘country house’ fashion; and, just as if you are a house-guest at such an establishment, you have little choice of menu. This can be a most enjoyable experience if you like the food and the guests next to you – but is rather risky if you are picky about what you will or will not eat or are unable to tolerate earnest Americans from strange religious sects. Ballyvolane is highly recommended by our client Julie Thomas, who stays only in the finest hotels – indeed she celebrated the anniversary of her twenty first birthday celebrations there just a few years ago.

Ballymaloe House, Shanagarry

Web site

A famous country house hotel and restaurant, recommended in many guide books and located towards the coast half an hour from Ballincurrig. The restaurant has expanded into several cosy rooms. There is a cookery school and the hotel sometimes runs gardening courses. Expensive and rated worth it by some of our clients.

Bayview Hotel, Ballycotton

Web site

Located above the small harbour of Ballycotton, around 40 minutes from Ballincurrig; and offering, just as it says on the tin, excellent views of Ballycotton Bay. Peaceful sitting areas by the gardens outside overlooking the harbour, and good cliff walks.

Rooms less expensively decorated than at Ballymaloe, but the best have sea views; and the restaurant serves good seafood.

Aherne’s Townhouse & Restaurant, Youghal

Web Site

A ‘restaurant with rooms’ in the walled seaside town of Youghal, and a useful place to stay if you are travelling from Rosslare, Wexford or Waterford. Has pleasant rooms and a good restaurant specialising in seafood.
